A Kansas teen died early Saturday morning after crashing into a semi on stretch of highway in Pratt County.

It happened around 6:30 a.m. on Kansas Highway 61 near 100th Avenue in the town of Preston. The Kansas Highway Patrol said a Pontiac Grand Am was heading northbound on K-61 when it veered left of the centerline and hit a southbound semi before coming to rest in a ditch.

The driver of the Grand Am, 16-year-old Drake Evert of Preston, was taken to a local hospital where he later died. Reports state he was wearing a seatbelt.

The 55-year-old driver of the semi was taken to a Pratt hospital for treatment.

The crash is under investigation.
