The last of the Wichita-area Taco Tico restaurants have closed.

Stores in Augusta and Newton closed Thursday. An El Dorado Taco Tico closed in August.

Those three locations were owned by the same ownership group.

I spoke with a manager at the Augusta store Friday morning who told me that the Augusta and Newton stores were sold, though it’s not yet clear to whom. She deferred any additional comment to Taco Tico’s owners.

The Taco Tico sites in Augusta, El Dorado and Newton were not part of the 10 stores owned by Ajax International Group, which the state shut down in March alleging the company owed more than $434,000 in taxes.

Ajax filed for bankruptcy protection a short time later in hopes of being able to reopen some of those restaurants, but those efforts fell through by June.
