The Wichita Police Explosive Ordinance Team was called to investigate a suspicious device near Harry and Meridian.
It began around 7 o'clock Wednesday evening when someone walking in the area reported seeing something wrapped in what appeared to be foil and making noise. They contacted 911.
Wichita Police Sgt. Jim Merrick told KAKE News Phil White at the scene that whatever the device was designed to look like an improvised explosive device, but it did not appear to contain an explosive.
The bomb squad did detonate the device and will analyze the contents. Meridian was closed for a short time while the Explosive Ordinance Team investigated.
