WICHITA, Kan. — Charges have been modified for four suspects accused in a double shooting late last year, from first degree murder to capital murder.

On November 15, Roger and Melissa Bluml were shot at their Valley Center home. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital where Melissa died a short time later.

A few days after the shooting, officers arrested the victims' adopted son, Tony Bluml. They also arrested Tony Bluml's biological mother, Kisha Schaberg, along with Andrew Ellington and Braden Smith.

In November, all four were initially charged with first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, burglary, theft and two counts of aggravated robbery. According to court documents at the time, all four suspects were charged with forcefully stealing Melissa Bluml's purse and hurting her in the process. They were also charged with forcefully stealing Roger Bluml's car keys and phone and charged with theft for stealing coins and property from the Bluml's home, worth less than $1,000.

Roger Bluml succumbed to his injuries on December 21, more than a month after the shooting. Today, charges were amended.

This afternoon, all four were charged with capital murder. It's currently unclear if District Attorney Marc Bennett will seek the death penalty, but he said it is a consideration.

Bond has been increased to $2 million for each suspect. A preliminary hearing date has not yet been scheduled.
