WICHITA, Kan.-- A man is behind bars after leading police on a chase and running two dozen stop signs near the midtown area of Wichita last night.
Police arrested 23-year-old Rene M. Ibarra as the driver of the vehicle.
Around 10 p.m., officers attempted a traffic stop near the 1400 block of North Emporia, but the driver fled. A pursuit ensued and ended in the 1500 block of North Saint Francis.
During the pursuit, Ibarra ran 24 stop signs and five red lights, hit two vehicles, and injured three people. The three victims suffered minor injuries and one was taken to the hospital.
"There are times when we'll have someone in a pursuit. They'll just circle the block and there's four stop signs. When they circle the block four times, that's 16 stop sign violations," said Lt. Doug Nolte, Wichita Police.
Ibarra was booked on reckless driving, flee or attempt to elude, resist arrest, unlawful possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, and multiple traffic violations.
He was also booked on three counts of aggravated battery and two counts of hit and run. Ibarra also had two outstanding warrants.
