KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A suspect is dead following a standoff with police in Kansas City, Kan.
It happened at the Brougham Estates complex at 1721 North 73rd Terrace. Police said they sent a robot into the apartment late Friday night, and the suspect was motionless on the floor. They made entry to check the scene and confirmed the suspect was dead.
Authorities have not said if the suspect was shot in gunfire exchange or if the death was self-inflicted.
Earlier, police described the event as an active shooter situation after a man allegedly exchanged gunfire with officers. Police said the situation began as a domestic disturbance.
The standoff prompted police to shut down access to nearby Kansas City Kansas Community College. Student and Administrative Services Vice President Brian Bode said that only two classes were in session when the situation began.
A soccer league was also playing on campus fields nearby. Players and students were evacuated from campus. Bode said that only campus police and custodians are in school buildings.
Police did not say whether it was a hostage situation.
