The carjacking suspect who was shot by police last week been released from a local hospital and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail.
It began Friday at a southeast Wichita Dillons store. Police say the 30-year-old suspect held a 23-year-old woman at gunpoint, then stole her car.
Officers in the area were already on alert after other carjackings earlier in the week. They soon after spotted the woman's car and began to follow it through neighborhood streets.
A brief chase ensued and ended when the suspect vehicle and a police unit crashed into each other. The suspect got out, pointed a gun at police and ran.
Officers pursued the man into an area near Cottonwood Park and ordered him to drop his gun. Once again he pointed his gun at police, and an officer fired once but missed.
The suspect ran into another neighborhood area and officers caught up again. He pointed his gun at officers for a third time, and was shot multiple times.
The suspect suffered multiple wounds to his arm and stomach, and was rushed to a local hospitals. His injuries were not life-threatening and he has since been treated, released and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail.
The man was booked on multiple charges, including aggravated robbery, aggravated assault on law enforcement with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault.
Wichita Police Chief Norman Williams said the suspect presented a threat not only to officers, but area residents who were coming out of their homes to find out what was going on during the chase.
Police believe the man may be connected to other recent carjackings and an armed robbery. Formal charges are pending.

A carjacking suspect who was shot by police Friday afternoon in south Wichita is recovering at a Wichita hospital.
Police said the 30-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his right arm and two minor wounds to his right side and abdomen. He is currently being treated at Wesley Medical Center.
He is suspected in a recent string of carjackings and robberies. Police believe he used an area near Lincoln and Governeour to dump vehicles he had carjacked.
The man's name has not yet been released. He is awaiting charges.

A carjacking suspect has been shot by Wichita Police after a foot chase in southeast Wichita.
It began shortly after 2 p.m. when police were dispatched to the report of a carjacking at a Dillons store on East Harry. A woman reported her car had been stolen at gunpoint.
Around 2:45, officers spotted the stolen vehicle, a green Saturn, and began pursuing it. A gun was visible.
The suspect eventually bailed out of the car and began running. At one point, he reportedly turned and fired rounds at a pursuing officer.
Additional officers caught up to the man moments later in the 7100 block of East Zimmerly. The suspect pointed his gun at those officers and was shot.
The approximately 30-year-old suspect was rushed to an area hospital in serious condition with at least two gunshot wounds. No officers were hurt. Roads in that area are shut down while police investigate.
Police believe this same man is responsible for at least one other carjacking and the robbery of an east Wichita business yesterday. Click here for that story.
