The newly built, National Center For Aviation Training is in the middle of its first semester in Wichita.
But the more than $50 million dollar center is starting life off with the aviation industry mired in a deep recession, prompting some to question if it’s needed.
The Center’s supporters are at the NBAA Convention in Atlanta, this week and say it is needed now more than ever with the recent rumors of outsourcing and layoffs.
Supporters also say that for people who are laid off, the Center will provide an opportunity for them to be retrained, opening up new doors to careers in the aviation industry.
The overall theme is that they need to train the workforce of tomorrow, today.
