Emergency crews are on the scene of a possible suspicious device found inside a mailbox in southeast Wichita. Officials say they received the report just before 3:30 p.m. in the 3200 block of Mt. Vernon Street about two blocks west of Webb Road.
Officials say a letter carrier noticed a suspicious blue liquid dripping from the mailbox on the curb in front of a house and notified authorities. Police have closed a one-block stretch of Mt. Vernon while they investigate the possible device.
A firefighter could be seen opening the mailbox with a hook and taking pictures of what is inside. Passersby are being kept a safe distance from the mailbox while the investigation is underway.
We have a crew on the scene and will have the latest information as it becomes available.
