WICHITA, Kan. - Wednesday night's stormy weather brought Kansas everything from brief tornadoes and flash flooding to power outages and hail damage.
A large section of Derby was in the dark for hours,as a thunderstorm moved through. Westar Energy counted more than 4,500 Sedgwick County customers without power,at one point in the night. But service was restored for practically everyone by 2:00 a.m.
Hail was the biggest problem across KAKEland. Several cars had reportedly suffered hail damage at Kansas Star Casino.
Hail also broke the back window of a car east of Mulvane, while covering a few driveways as white as a winter snowstorm.
People in Sumner County raised questions about a rope tornado which two people spotted between Wellington and Belle Plaine. Sirens were sounded across the county, but the National Weather Service never issued a tornado warning.
