WICHITA, Kan. — A long wait involving a Wichita SWAT team and a teenager ended peacefully Thursday night.

Police say the trouble started around 7:45 p.m. at a home in the 8600 block of East Mount Vernon. That's when officers say a 17-year-old boy got upset with his mother and 12-year-old brother, and pointed a rifle at them. They ran upstairs and hid in a bedroom, and the teen reportedly fired shots into the door. No one was hurt.

Police and SWAT were called to the scene, and were eventually able to talk the teen out of the home peacefully.

Police Lt. Jason Stephens described the suspect as "a 17-year-old male who we believe to have a mental disorder." His mother told police she had recently been having discipline problems with the boy.

He was taken into custody.
