Douglass, Kan. -- A man has been taken into custody following a standoff with Butler County authorities.
It began around 7 p.m. near 1st and Poplar in Douglass, when a neighbor called 911 to report the man was firing shots. When deputies arrived on scene, they heard the man fire three shots inside of his house.
The unidentified man then barricaded himself inside his house on east 1st street and refused to come out. Deputies were eventually able to get the man to surrender shortly before 10 p.m.
Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet tells KAKE News that deputies have had contact with this man in the past. He could face charges for discharging a gun within city limits.
However, Herzet says they are focused on getting the man a mental health evaluation and making sure he is okay. No one was hurt in the incident.
