Hays, Kan. -- Hays Police have arrested a man and woman from Wichita following a standoff.
It began Monday morning, when officers went to a home in the 2100 block of Lincoln Drive to follow up on a reported carjacking that happened in Wichita. When the arrived, they recovered the stolen vehicle and took Crystal R. McKinney of Wichita into custody on charges of felony obstruction, obstruction, and driving while revoked.
A perimeter was set up around the home and officers tried to coax 32-year-old Michael E. Novak to come out. Special Situation Response Team was called to the scene after Novak refused to leave the home.
At 9:37, the team entered the home and took Novak into custody. Novak was wanted in connection with the carjacking and a $100,000 bond felony arrest warrant out of Sedgwick County. He was transported to the jail for the felony warrant in Sedgwick County and for felony obstruction.
Both Novak and McKinney are being held in the Ellis County Jail. The Kansas Highway Patrol and Ellis County Sheriff's Office assisted in apprehending McKinney and Novak.
Novak has previously served time for burglary, identity theft, forgery, theft and obstruction.
