A loss prevention employee of a Wichita J.C. Penney store is recovering from a stab wound to the chest, police said.
The man was stabbed about 6:30 p.m. Saturday in a parking lot outside Towne East Square. Police Sgt. Bart Brunscheen said the victim, who is in his 20s, chased two shoplifting suspects from the store into the parking lot.
The loss prevention employee and the pair -- a man and a woman in their 30s -- were involved in a scuffle in the parking lot and the employee was stabbed. Other loss prevention employees and mall customers helped find and catch the suspects, Brunscheen said. They were taken into custody.
The victim was taken to Wesley Medical Center in critical condition, but Brunscheen said his condition had stabilized and he was able to talk with detectives.
