WICHITA, Kan. — A Spirit Aerosystems employee remains hospitalized following a workplace accident Thursday night.
The accident happened just after 9 p.m. Thursday in the metals factory. According to Spirit spokesman Ken Evans, an employee suffered chest injuries while working with one of the machines. He's in stable condition at a Wichita hospital.
On Friday, Spirit employees began the day with a Safety Stand Down.
"That's really been our focus this morning in the factory, is making sure employees are talking about safety, making sure they are very focused on that as well as the entire company," Evans said.
Work has stopped in the area where the accident occurred, and an investigation is underway to find out what happened and if any changes need to be made. The company is working with union and government regulators.
Evans expects that area to be back up and running by this weekend.
