WICHITA, Kan. — A late night dump truck spill and an overnight crash caused problems on I-135.
The night of road trouble began around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, when a dump truck spilled its load of sand and gravel on about one mile of northbound Interstate 135.
City crews closed the northbound lanes near Pawnee, while another truck removed the mess. Drivers had to detour onto Hydraulic for about two hours. No one was injured in the spill.
Clean-up work was needed again around 4:00 a.m. at an exit ramp from northbound I-135 to S. Hydraulic. State troopers suspect a box truck went off a bridge and sideswiped a tree.
The truck caught fire with the driver trapped, but he was rescued and taken to a hospital. The extent of his injuries are unclear.
The truck spilled fuel onto the exit ramp, so it was kept closed for several hours while the wreckage was removed.
