South Wichita Gas Pump Catches Fire After Hit By SUV

One person has been taken into custody after allegedly backing into a south Wichita gas pump, causing it to catch fire, and leaving the scene.

It happened around 5:30 Saturday morning at the Quik Trip at Harry and South Seneca.

Authorities say a woman in a white Chevy Blazer backed into the pump.

"After they did hit the pump, they got out of their vehicle for a second and acted like they were going to report it to the store, but at some point changed their mind, got back into the vehicle and left," said Wichita Police Sgt. Kenneth Kimble.

She was found and arrested for hit and run a short time later.

The intersection was shut down while firefighters quickly got the blaze under control.

No injuries were reported.

The incident is under investigation. A damage estimate was not immediately available.

A gas pump at a south Wichita gas station caught fire after it was hit by sport utility vehicle early Saturday morning.

It happened around 5:30 a.m. at the Quik Trip at Harry and South Seneca.

Authorities say a white Chevy Blazer struck the pump and then fled the scene.

The intersection was shut down while firefighters quickly got the blaze under control.

No injuries were reported.
