Several Wichita people expecting to use their July Social Security payments at 12:00 midnight Monday report they've been denied service.
Carrie De la Hoya tells KAKE News her plastic SSA debit card was shown as "invalid" around 1:00 a.m., well after the usual midnight processing time. She says about a dozen people at a QuikTrip in northwest Wichita were waiting in line to use their cards, but encountering the same situation.
An e-mail to KAKE.com reported "hundreds of customers" were unable to check out at a Wal-Mart store on Broadway because of the same Social Security problem.
Another Social Security recipient tells KAKE News Direct Express normally adds the monthly checks on time at 12:00 midnight. But Monday the card was denied for withdrawing money from ATMs.
The Social Security website gave no indication of any delay in the payments going through. De la Hoya says she called the agency's hotline, but received a message mentioning a "high volume of calls."
