Siemens Wind Energy has called back 18 laid-off workers to its nacelle manufacturing plant in Hutchinson, and the company plans to add another 48 jobs in March.
The Hutchinson News reports the company is re-evaluating its staffing levels every month and making adjustments based on workload.
Siemens announced in September that it would be laying off 146 Hutchinson employees, about half its work force there. One factor the company cited was the pending expiration of the United States' wind energy production tax credit, which later was renewed for a year. Other factors were a trend toward natural gas power and slow growth in energy demand because of the recession.
The renewal of the production tax credit is not necessarily motivating call-backs, though. Siemens says the hiring is mostly the result of orders from outside the United States.
