It's turning out to be another violent weekend in Old Town. For the third week in a row, Wichita police police say someone fired a gun as the bar crowds were leaving for the evening, just yards from the scene of last weekend's shooting.
Police say just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday, officers in the 100 block of North Mosley Street were attending to a man who had been beaten unconscious when the heard gunshots. They saw a vehicle leaving the area and followed after it.
The officers stopped the vehicle and arrested the 29-year-old driver. The man told police he was a bouncer at one of the Old Town bars and he had fired his gun to protect himself.
Officers were not able to find any evidence of a disturbance or any gunshot victims. They did recover a revolver in the man's vehicle as well as four spent shell casings.
Officials say the man was booked in to jail and is facing charges of discharging a firearm within city limits, possession of a firearm by a felon and cocaine possession. The incident is under investigation.
