WICHITA, Kan. — Two men remain hospitalized after a shooting and stabbing outside a southwest Wichita apartment complex Tuesday night.
Police were called to the report of a shooting around 10:35 p.m. Tuesday in the 2500 block of Wildwood Street, at the WindRidge Apartments. Officers arrived to find three people in the middle of the street suffering from gunshot wounds.
One of those victims, 24-year-old Cayli Phillips, was pronounced dead at the scene. A man later identified as 50-year-old Eddie Centeno-Martinez was transported to a local hospital where he later died. The third shooting victim, a 38-year-old Wichita man, was also taken to a local hospital where he remains hospitalized in critical condition. Police say he's the cousin of Centeno-Martinez.
Shortly after the shooting, a 27-year-old man showed up at a local hospital suffering from a stab wound to the chest. Police believe he may be the suspect in the shooting. He's hospitalized under guard in critical condition.
Police say all four live in the area and know each other, and believe the disturbance was the result of a dispute that had been going on for several days. Lt. Randy Reynolds said an argument last night spilled out into the street, then turned into a physical altercation.
At this point, police say it's unclear if the stabbing happened before or after shots were fired.
Lt. Reynolds said police are pleased with the level of cooperation they're receiving from witnesses in the area, but still ask that anyone with information call the Homicide section at (316) 268-4181 or the general line at 268-4407.
