WICHITA, Kan. At Shady Creek Marina in El Dorado, staff is celebrating more than just the Fourth of July.
"Oh it's a wonderful feeling," said Shady Creek Sales Marina President Mike Morgan. "After last years disaster, it's taken us nearly nine months to get the marina put back together."
Last August, a wind storm tore the marina apart. Now, after at least half a million dollars worth of repairs, it is back open for business.
"Of course they've fixed the docks, they put down new wood, they made them stronger, they stabilized them more in the water," said Shady Creek Marina Manager Debbie Haled. "They ran cables underneath to all of the docks to where if we do have a storm like that again, we may not break away as easily as we did before."
Haled lives at the marina, so the storm didn't just effect her business, but also her home, making her especially thankful to have things back to normal.
"Everybody's happy, lot's of smiles, lots of pats on the back, ya they're happy," Haled said. "I am so excited for this weekend because there's no rain in the forecast, that's number one, our lake is full, completely, full, our docks are full, and everybody is ready for a great, great weekend."
If you are making a trip to El Dorado lake this weekend, there is a Fourth of July fireworks show Friday night off the dam. If you have a park permit, you can come in the park and watch it.
