UPDATE: Wichita man sentenced in deadly hit and run

WICHITA, Kan. -- A Wichita man has been sentenced in connection to a hit-and-run crash last year that killed a man and severely injured a child who were riding a horse.

In February, 26-year-old George Childers pleaded guilty to two felonies for a hit-and-run crash that killed a man who was riding a horse.

On Tuesday, Childers was sentenced to 28 months in prison.

Police reported that Childers was driving the car that killed 49-year-old Lloyd "Sonny" Ferguson and seriously injured 6-year-old Eddie Caddell at 21st and Piatt on July 5th. The horse had to be euthanized as a result of the crash. Two others stopped to help the victims, then all four were hit by a second car.

Three women pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of interfering with law enforcement and were given probation.
