The family of man killed in a semi truck crash on Highway 281 Friday is planning a memorial for him this Wednesday. Jeffery Ehlert, 40, died after hitting another truck head-on on Highway 281 about six miles north of St. John.

Jeffery and Sheila Ehlert and their four children moved into their Haysville home in 2009.

“He's a great dad, the best husband that anyone could have ever asked for,” Sheila Ehlert said.

Sunday afternoon, their home was filled with family all there to support each other and share memories of Jeff.

“He was ornery, he'd make you laugh,” Jeff's sister Tammy Gielisch said.

Jeff and Sheila got married 11 years ago. They would have celebrated their anniversary in April.

“He was my rock, I'd go in and wake him up when he was sleeping, tell him things, talk to him, Sheila Ehlert said.

Jeff supported his family as a truck driver and Sheila stayed home taking care of their four children. The oldest is 12, the youngest is just 3 years old.

“It's never going to be easy, but with all the family and support it's helped a lot, keeping the kids busy with their friends and their family,” Sheila Ehlert said.

Jeff's sister says their family set up a memorial fund to not only help Sheila out with every day expenses, but also to cover the costs of all the activities the kids are in and help them stay in the house where they created three years worth of memories with their dad.

“We want to make sure we keep them healthy we keep them active in what they need to do so they have a normal life it's never going to be normal without dad around but as normal as we can make it for them,” Gielisch said.

Jeff Elhert's memorial will be held this Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Faith Christian Church and is open to anyone who would like to attend. In lieu of flowers, his family would like people make a donation to his memorial fund.

Donations can be made in Ehlert's name at the Cessna Employees Credit Union, 4 Cessna Boulevard, Wichita KS 67215, 316-517-6578.
