Sedgwick County Manager Bill Buchanan is presenting the latest budget proposal to commissioners Wednesday.
Part of the budget includes eliminating 113 positions - 79 of those are currently filled.
"It breaks you heart," said Buchanan about laying off county employees.
The county is facing a $9.3 million budget deficit. Buchanan blames it on low assessed valuations leading to a drop in property taxes to the county.
Buchanan says services will be affected because of the layoffs, but the county he says has to learn to do less with less.
The county commission will hear more details on the layoffs and the proposed budget during Wednesday morning's commission meeting that begins at 9 a.m. on the third floor of the courthouse.
Public hearings on the budget are scheduled for July 25, Aug, 9 and Aug. 14. The commission will vote on the budget on Aug. 15.
