WICHITA, Kan. -- Local law enforcement officers will be on the lookout for drunk drivers this weekend.
The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Department has announced plans to conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Saturday between the hours of 10:30 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. The checkpoint's location in Sedgwick County has not been disclosed.
Drivers who are suspected of intoxication will be given field sobriety tests. Organizers say all efforts will be made to limit the interruption of traffic flow, but many drivers will be stopped as part of this program.
Impaired driving crashes are one of Sedgwick County's leading traffic problems. Checkpoint like this one are conducted to try to reduce the number of DUI related crashes.
