A security guard loses his job after accidently discharging his firearm inside an apartment complex housing Butler Community College students.
El Dorado police say the shooting occured about 10:30 Monday night in an office area of "The Grizzly Villas" apartments at 700 south Haverhill in El Dorado.
According to the police report the bullet went through furniture, a computer and a wall into a room where an 18 year old Butler student was at.
According to the college the bullet grazed the lower back of student Tyler Berry. Dean of Student Life Karen Gelvin says Berry is fine and attended his usual classes Tuesday. Police say the student sustained a minor injury and didn't require emergency treatment.
Dean Gelvin says "It was an accident. It's very unfortunate. But the good news is nobody was hurt."
Gelvin says "These are my kids. So I was shaken. And I wanted to make sure he was okay. It grazed his lower back."
Management of 'The Grizzly Villas' apartments say the security officer has been relieved of his duties. The Villas statement says they are working with police, the campus and security company to learn how this happened and how it can be prevented from occuring again.
