Authorities say a young mother who ran away with her infant son has been found safe in Kansas City, Kansas.
Sixteen-year-old Heather Dawn Zeferjohn and her 9-month-old son, Julian, took off early Thursday morning from the 6600 block of SW Crestwood in Topeka. Family members were concerned because the infant has a medical condition. The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office says both were found around 4 p.m. Friday by the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department. Both were safe and unharmed.
Sheriff's officials said KCK police were taking the mother and child to a juvenile center for screening and further assessment and that tips from the public provided the information that led them to the teen.
Authorities did not say whether Zeferjohn and her child were with a 16-year-old male with whom they were seen leaving Thursday.
