Rescue crews have called off a search in the Arkansas River, after a train conductor reported one or two people jumped from a bridge overnight.
Emergency responders were called around midnight to the area of Topeka and St. Francis, near Herman Hill Park after a train conductor reported seeing at least one person jump or fall from a bridge into the water below.
The train was equipped with a video camera, but early reports indicate the video does not give a conclusive view of what happened.
At one point in the search, rescue workers used jet skis in the river. But the search was stopped shortly after 1:30.
This morning, Acting Wichita Fire Marshal Stu Bevis said there were no plans to resume the search, saying there's not enough evidence to prove someone actually went into the water.
