The defense has rested in Brett Seacat's murder trial. Closing arguments are set to begin at 1 p.m. Monday.

His voice cracking at times, a former Kansas lawman told jurors that it was his fault his wife is dead but that he didn't kill her.

Brett Seacat returned to the witness stand Friday in his first-degree murder trial in the April 2011 killing of 34-year-old Vashti Seacat. The 37-year-old Kingman man also is charged with aggravated arson and two counts of child endangerment.

The defense contends his wife set the fire before killing herself.

Seacat testified he went to the burning master bedroom and found Vashti with blood coming out of her mouth and blood on the bed. Brett Seacat said he believed his wife was dead and turned his attention to getting the couple's two sons out of the home.

Earlier Seacat told jurors he threatened his wife the last evening she was alive when he realized she wanted to go through with a contested divorce. He testified he told her he would get her fired from a cable company by exposing her affairs with two managers. He also threatened to publish private photographs of her.

Brett Seacat has taken the witness stand in his murder trial in Kingman. Seacat, who is charged with the murder of his wife Vashti, would not allow video of his testimony, only an audio recording.

Seacat's attorney started by asking him about the day he was served with divorce papers in April, 2011. Vashti died days later inside their burning home.

Brett Seacat says he believed his wife was not certain whether she wanted to file for divorce or not. Seacat told the jury his wife seemed sad the day he was served divorce papers. She arranged to be with him when it happened.

"I think my main line of questioning was 'Do you really know what you're doing? This is really big," Brett Seacat said.

Today, Kathleen Forrest took the stand. Clearly not happy about having to testify for the defense, Kathleen was asked about her purchase of the weight loss supplement HCG for her sister, Vashti Forrest-Seacat.

"Do you know what HCG is?" asked defense attorney Val Wachtal.

"My understanding is that it's a diet supplement," Forrest responded.

Forrest said she did not know if her sister was using the supplement or injecting herself with it during the days leading up to her death two years ago.

Forrest said she purchased her sister a gift card to a medical spa in Oklahoma, but did not know if her sister actually used the card.

"But you testified at the preliminary hearing that she had injected HCG, did you not?" Wachtal asked.

Forrest said she didn't recall her exact testimony, but prosecutors refreshed her memory by pointing out the entire transcript where Kathleen Forrest acknowledged that she did not know whether her sister had taken HCG by injections or oral drops... or even at all.

Later, Seacat neighbor Monte Wilson testified that he was shocked when he discovered the Seacat home up in flames that early morning.

"Brett loved that house. It was a beautiful house and you couldn't help by talk to him about it," Wilson said.

Wilson said he had spoken with Brett the week before the tragedy and all seemed well. They had been planning a block party for the neighborhood. However, when Wilson went over a few days later to ask what he should bring, Brett said there would be no party.

"He said they were getting a divorce," Wilson said.

"Did he appear to be enraged, angry?" the defense attorney asked.

"No, not at all," Wilson responded. "While I was talking to him, Vashti walked by and waved to me. That was the last time I saw her."

There have been a number of indications and speculation that Brett Seacat himself could take the stand later this afternoon. He is charged with first degree murder, aggravated arson and aggravated child endangerment for the April, 2011, death of his wife.
