WICHITA, Kan. (AP) -- Former Republican state Sen. Jean Schodorf plans to formally announce she will run for Kansas secretary of state next year as a Democrat.
Schodorf scheduled an event Wednesday afternoon in Wichita to talk about the goals and objectives of her campaign.
She's aiming to challenge incumbent Republican Secretary of State Kris Kobach next November. Mission Hills businessman Randy Rolston said Monday he's dropping out of the race and would endorse Schodorf for the Democratic nomination.
Schodorf served 12 years in the state Senate as a moderate Republican, but lost a bid for re-election after conservative Republicans targeted her for defeat in 2012.
She has now switched parties and has been critical of Kobach and a law he championed requiring new voters to prove their U.S. citizenship when registering.
