A standoff in Winfield ended around 4 p.m. peacefully.
It began around 8:30 Tuesday morning when a man in his 30's, who was upset with his family, fired several shots into the air. Police responded to the scene, but the man had already gone back inside of his home in the 1400 block of East 9th Avenue.
The Southern Kansas SWAT team and the Wichita SWAT team responded to the scene. A KBI agent who lives in Winfield responded to the scene and agents were dispatched from Topeka.
Police were able to make contact with the man inside of the home and he eventually surrendered. Police say he may be suffering from mental health issues, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
The man will receive a mental evaluation.
