WICHITA, Kan. -- A rollover accident Thursday evening left many Westar customers in south Wichita without power.
It happened just before 7:30 p.m. on southbound I-235 at Seneca.
A volunteer firefighter on scene tells KAKE News the car flipped end over end and hit a power pole. He also stated the driver ran from the scene of the crash, but dispatchers say he is in custody. The extent of his injuries is unknown.
Westar initially reported on its website that about 4,000 customers were without power following the crash. As of 8:45 p.m., the number of outages had fallen to just over 500. Westar estimated it would take about five hours for all power to be restored.
