It was a full house at the Copper Oven Café in the Indian Hills Shopping center at 13th and Meridian in Wichita. That didn't stop a man from attempting to rob the place.
Café owner Sharon Schoenhofer was working the cash register when she says a man approaches who was acting "antsy and jittery."
Schoenhofer says the man demanded money or he'd shoot someone, "I wasn't for sure if he was serious or kidding. And then he said it again. I didn't see a gun and so I said no. And so he said I'm going to shoot you. And I said you're on camera."
Their security cameras caught video of the man inside and outside the café. It was provided to police for their investigation.
Schoenhofer says she's never been robbed in her 20 years of operating restaurants. She says if she'd actually seen a gun she would have complied. But she says she didn't feel she or her customers were in any danger.
The man had already stiffed the café for a meal he didn't pay for, Schoenhofer says.
"Yes we work hard for the money." And she wasn't about to turn over that hard earned cash for no reason.
The man's described as white, in his 50s, 5-foot-11 and about 150 pounds. He was wearing a gray cap with the "no fear" logo on it. He's said to have driven away in a gold colored single cab pickup with nice wheels and lots of chrome.
If you recognize the person, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers or 911.
