It's snowing heavily in a large part of KAKEland.
The snow moved into the Wichita area shortly after 8 a.m. this morning, and several accidents have been reported around the area. There have been no serious injuries reported so far.
There are multiple reports of accidents on Kellogg in both east and west Wichita.
City streets and elevated roadways are slick, and the Emergency Accident Reporting Plan is now in effect for the City of Wichita and Sedgwick County. That means that if you're involved in a non-injury accident and alcohol and is not involved, you're allowed to move your vehicle and exchange info with the other driver. You must then report the accident within the next 24 hours by picking up a form at area QuikTrip stores or police substation.
Several flights in and out of Wichita have also been canceled. However, the airport remains open and runways are continuously being plowed and treated. Passengers with flight plans are asked to check with their airline prior to going to the airport. You can find information on specific flights by clicking here.
In other parts of the state, Reno County has implemented a storm emergency accident reporting system. If roadways are not blocked and no alcohol is involved, you can report the accident as soon as the storm clears.
In Salina, Operation Slick Streets is in effect.
The City of Hays is under a "Phase One" Winter Storm Traffic Emergency. During "Phase One," it is unlawful to park a vehicle on any street designated as an emergency snow route.
Wichita USD 259 has canceled all after school and evening activities. There are also several other school and event cancellations. For a complete list, click here.
