No one likes a detour, but Maize resident Kathy Bliss said it's worth it to get the road in front of her house paved.
Unfortunately heavy rain has foiled the city's plan to have her road paved by now. A wet August has delayed Kansas Paving crews from building three roads in Maize.
All three projects were scheduled to be done by now, but the city administrator estimates work on Lakeland and Maize Road to be done by the end of September.
"You have to be able to lay the base properly," explained Richard LaMunyon, Maize City Administrator. "You can't put a based in the middle of a mud hole."
That's something workers at the third project know all too well. Instead of building roads at Watercrest, they have been pumping water off the property for three weeks.
LaMunyon said the delays are only a minor inconvenience.
