Residents were allowed back in their homes after authorities investigated and removed a possible explosive device from a southeast Wichita neighborhood Saturday evening.

Police responded to the 800 block of South Green Street at around 6:15 p.m. after a homeowner called and said he thought there was an explosive device in his backyard.

A portion of the neighborhood was evacuated, and the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team investigated.

The device was removed, and residents were allowed back in their home at about 9 p.m.

Police declined to elaborate on what the device looked like. But they say it was not an explosive device but simply something that had been made to look like one.

There is an ongoing investigation into who left the device in the homeowner's backyard and what it was made of.
