Officials are warning residents to take precautions after a series of vehicle burglaries east of Hutchinson.

Reno County Sheriff Randy Henderson says there have been five break-ins reported in the area of the Homefield Housing Addition about half a mile south of 4th Avenue on Obee Road. The burglaries happened sometime between midnight Thursday and 6 a.m. Friday.

The thieves stole mostly small items like CDs but a handgun was taken from one vehicle. All of the thefts were from unlocked vehicles.

Henderson says all residents in Reno Count are cautioned to lock their cars and keep garage doors shut.
