The recent media coverage of the flu hitting the nation has prompted several to get their flu shot, and some health departments are seeing their supply run out.
According to the Reno County Health Department, they have given so many vaccinations they have run out of their private supply.
“We have given enough doses that we have run out of our private stock of vaccine that we buy for people who do not have insurance or reimbursement.” But Cathy Winger, the spokesperson for the Reno County Health Department says they still have vaccine for children who qualify for the vaccine for children program.
The vaccine for children program is for children who also don’t have insurance.
“Remember as well as getting a flu vaccine, wash your hands, cough and sneeze into your elbow, stay home when you are sick, and stay away from others that are sick,” she added.
The Reno County Health Department had purchased 4,000 vaccines, and are not able to buy any more. Winger stressed that while they may be out of the vaccine, there is still an ample supply within the community.
