WICHITA, Kan. - It's only a matter of time before hot summer weather arrives to stay. The American Red Cross in Wichita wants to make sure people are safe, by giving away free fans.
This Red Cross is continuing a Wichita tradition lasting more than 15 years, by giving away fans. It begins at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday and will last for three days at the 1900 E. Douglas Red Cross office.
The giveaway is aimed especially toward older people and families with small children. Those groups are considered especially at risk, when the summer heat arrives.
There's a limit of one fan per household. The Red Cross has more than 1,200 available. But one early arrival Wednesday morning told KAKE News she missed out on a fan last year by arriving late.
The Red Cross requires two documents for claiming a free fan: a valid Kansas driver's license and proof of your current address. That could be something like a recent utility bill.
