Wichita, Kan. --
Tuesday evening the public will have the opportunity to comment on the selection of McConnell Air Force Base as the preferred main operating base for the new KC-46 aerial refueling tanker.
The US Air Force is conducting hearings on its selections of bases for the new tanker announced last May.
The hearing will be at the W.S.U. Hughes Metropolitan Complex Tuesday with the doors opening at 5:pm. The meeting is over at 8:pm
As the main operating base for the KC-46, McConnell would receive 36 tankers for three squadrons.
Tanker Task Force Chairman Wayne Roberts says, "It's really important to show community support, that people support McConnell and want the KC-46 A."
Roberts says, "With this we become the model base for the tankers. So we will have a lot of people coming in and out of here from Air Mobility Command, from the Pentagon. There's a lot training to be done here. So it's really important to get the M.O.B. one."
The Air Force draft environmental impact study is available for comment regarding the addition of the KC-46 to McConnell.
Wichita Area Chamber Government Relations Manager Pat Gallagher says, "And so the community deserves an opportunity to make a public statement about how they feel about that change."
Regarding McConnell's selection Gallagher says, "That's only good things for Wichita and Derby and McConnell Air Force Base."
