WICHITA, Kan. — More than 40 people came out for a prayer vigil for a young girl who has since died in a suspected case of child abuse.

On Monday night, 3-year-old Emma was rushed to Wesley Medical Center with serious injuries. She died Wednesday night.

Numerous people came out for a prayer vigil for Emma outside the hospital on Wednesday night. Many wore blue ribbons, symbolizing child abuse awareness.

Emma's cousin says tonight's vigil showing means a lot.

"It's big support," says Jacob Rufe. "It just shows you how many good-hearted people are really out there and how many people really care."

Emma's 24-year-old mother, Monica Krueger and her boyfriend, 23-year-old Evan Schuessler were arrested on Monday for suspected child abuse.

At least one neighbor tells KAKE News he often heard screaming coming from the house, and pleading from the little girl. Police say they checked previous 911 records, and no call was ever made.

A special Facebook page is being set up, to help pay for any funeral expenses for Emma.

Krueger and Schuessler remain jailed tonight on 100-thousand dollars bond, on child abuse and aggravated child endangerment charges. Child abuse is a level 5 felony in Kansas and could potentially result in homicide charges.
