UPDATE: Tuesday, January 31, 2012

A man and woman arrested in Wichita after a police chase have been charged with robbing a Subway restaurant, said U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom. David B. Johnson, 26, and Brittany R. Holt, 22, are each charged with one count of robbery and Johnson is charged with one count of unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction.

Officials say on Saturday morning, Johnson ordered two sandwiches at the Subway shop at 343 S. Greenwich Road. Johnson then refused to pay, pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money from the register. He left the store and got into a vehicle Holt was driving.

A Sedgwick County Sheriff deputy attempted to stop the couple’s vehicle, but they fled and lead officers on a half-hour chase reaching speeds up to 100 miles per hour. Investigators say Johnson and Holt met and started a relationship about four months ago in Topeka. They have traveled together through Kansas and lived in Texas for about a month.

If convicted, they face a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000 on the robbery charge. The firearms charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years and a fine up to $250,000.
