WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita Police are reminding drivers in northwest Wichita: If you're on Ridge Road, don't plan to turn left at 29th.
Construction to pave 29th Street from Ridge to Hoover began a few weeks ago. As part of the process, Ridge Road was scaled back to one lane in each direction. Because of the high volume of vehicles that move through that intersection, left turns are restricted if you're going north or south. Construction crews have even set up several signs to that effect.
But police say numerous drivers are ignoring those signs and tying up traffic while waiting to make the turn. Officers are now monitoring that intersection, stopping vehicles that do and issuing citations.
"We want to keep people flowing through that intersection and not gets cars backed up to 37th North or the other direction," said Officer Lori Kimrey.
Construction is expected to be complete near the end of summer.
