Wichita, Kan. -- A 29-year-old man is dead after police say he tried to intervene as a Wichita convenience store was being robbed Sunday night.
It happened around 7:15 p.m. Sunday at B & D Convenience store, located near Harry and Hydraulic. Police say a 19-year-old suspect walked in, pulled a gun and demanded money.
Police say 29-year-old Jeffery M. Jones was one of several customers inside the store, and got into an argument with the suspect. That's when they say Jones was shot in the face. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
The suspect fled, and reportedly fired shots while walking southbound on Greenwood. Police say he fired at two parked cars, as well as one driving southbound. Officers believe that car may have been hit by gunfire, and are looking for the driver.
The shooting suspect was located a short time later and arrested. Jackson Leroy Ian Bryant, 19, was booked for murder and attempted robbery. He could be officially charged as early as Tuesday.
