WICHITA, Kan. -- Two people are in custody after a pursuit through parts of Wichita overnight.
Around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sedgwick County deputies attempted to stop a Chevrolet Lumina for traffic violations in the 2600 block of W. McCormick. The driver refused to stop and a chase ensued.
According to the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office, the suspect then drove to the area of 13th and Meridian and circled neighborhoods for several minutes.
Nearby, two Wichita police officers tried to deploy stop sticks to deflate the car's tires. The sheriff's office says the suspect then swerved to hit the two officers, and one of them suffered an injury to his hand while trying to avoid the car.
The pursuit ended near the 2800 block of West 13th near St. Paul when the car spun out of control. As several patrol cars boxed in the car, the suspect backed into one of them before he was taken into custody. No other officers were hurt.
The 22-year-old man was treated for minor injuries, then booked into jail for aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, felony flee and elude, possession of marijuana, possession of a counterfeit bill and a prior warrant.
A 26-year-old woman who was in the passenger seat was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.
The chase lasted about 15 minutes.
