Police have just released information about a major drug bust they made late last month in east Wichita. Officials say on Aug. 30 they received a report about a large amount of marijuana that was found in a home in the 1900 block of South Shiloh Street.
The woman who owns the property called police after the real estate agent she hired to manage the property found several bags of marijuana inside the house. The agent was getting the property ready to rent out when she found hundreds of bags of marijuana. She took pictures of the drugs with her cell phone and gave the pictures to investigators.
Officials say the owner had previously agreed to rent the home to a family that was scheduled to move in on Sept. 1. She found out later that her husband had given the keys to the renters early and they had already started moving in their belongings.
Police were able to monitor the home until one the renters returned. The suspect was cooperative with police and gave them access to the home. Once inside, investigators recovered 120 pounds of marijuana with a street value of approximately $300,000.
The suspect's name has not been released. Officials say he had been previously arrested on an immigration violation.
The man is currently being held at the Sedgwick County Jail by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He is facing an indictment by the U.S. Attorney's office.
