Earlier this week, KAKE News gave you a sneak peak at a brand new baseball field in Wichita that makes an All-American sport all-accessible. Saturday, that field officially opened just in time for baseball season.

It's called the Miracle Field. It was built especially for the Miracle League of Wichita to give children with special needs the chance to play ball.

Saturday morning was the opening ceremony for the field. City leaders and representatives from the organizations who made this dream field a reality joined the players and their families to officially open up the field before the first game.

The rules at Miracle Field are simple: everybody plays and everybody scores.

Lanie Armstrong founded the Miracle League in Wichita three years ago to give kids like her son Chance the opportunity to play ball.

“I've had a lot of parents come up and hug me and usually they're in tears and they say you know I never thought I would hear my child's name announced on the loud speaker that they're up to bat,” Lanie Armstrong said.

Courtney Carpenter says she never thought she would get to see her son play baseball. Her 8-year-old son Devin was born with a rare disorder that left him deaf and blind.

“My family is so sports orientated, it was really hard knowing when you're son is born he won't be able to play these sports. So when I found out about miracle league, I was so excited,” Courtney Carpenter said.

At Miracle Field, a game is usually about three innings long. There are no outs and no one is left sitting on the bench.

Each player has an "Angel in the Outfield” there to help kids hit the ball, run the bases or even just offer a high five for a job well done.

For Miracle Field's opening day, eight teams made up of 91 players played four games. All of them ended up tied for the win.
