Crews are on the scene of a 'hard landing' at a Butler County Airport.

It was reported around 2:30 p.m. at the Augusta Municipal Airport, located along Highway 54 between Andover and Augusta.

According to the FAA, the pilot departed the airport in a Grumman American, a small single-engine plane.

The pilot says the plane began to sputter once it reached about 3,000 feet. From a few miles south of the airport, he had to turn back and attempt to land. He says he didn’t have time to make a proper approach and overshot the runway because of speed and tailwind. The plane landed upright to the side of the runway.

He and his wife were in the plane. Neither was injured.

The Kansas Highway Patrol and other agencies are on scene. The FAA is investigating.
