KAKE-TV turns 60 in October. Over the next couple of months we'll show you some of the stories we've covered one year at a time, one day at a time.

KAKE-TV signed on the air October 19, 1954, featuring programming from ABC and NBC, along with the "General Motors Newscast".

October was a busy news month. First, Boeing rolled out the 1000th B-47 Stratojet. At the time, Boeing had more than 30,000 employees at its Wichita plant.

The then University of Wichita reported a new all time enrollment record. The campus had 3,848 students, breaking the previous record by nearly five hundred students.

Dondlinger & Sons was awarded a $1.25 million contract to build a field house on the campus. You now know that building as Charles Koch Arena.
